Harnessing the wind to propel a vessel - sailing is an activity that we are proud to be a part of. We continue that environmental theme in our everyday business activity. Using reusable tableware and dishes, responsible recycling and sorting of waste, and clean operation of our vessels.

Ophira Sailing was established in 2010 thru a deep passion for all things nautical: sailing, celestial navigation and nautical science. As a young boy, I learned to sail with my younger brother. We spent summers on Long Beach Island, NJ and rented sunfish class boats. Our father taught us the basics during day sailing outings on the weekends and we solo sailed together in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. It was perfect for young sailors, with little current, mostly shallow waters and lots of island to explore.
Over the years, my sailing efforts took a back seat to family responsibilities and a career in mechanical engineering and material science. In 2010, I reconnected with my sailing roots and it's been full speed ahead ever since.

Sailing has become a labor of love, combining my carpentry, engineering and mechanical skills. The challenge of restoring a 1970's sailboat to operate in the 21st century and experiencing open sea sailing has been what's fueled my continued passion for sailing. Today, I realize I started this business so that I could share this experience with others!
